20th C. Indonesian Sundanese Kujang - Forged Iron Blade
Product Description
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, western Java, Sundanese people, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. An interesting example of a kujang, an ancient style of agricultural tool used by farmers that also doubled as an effective weapon. The forged-iron weapon has a crescent-form blade, a large shoulder projection, and a curved body terminating in a narrow tip studded with a brass rivet; the entirety of the periphery exhibits a sharpened edge. The blade tang is inserted into a tubular wooden handle boasting fine graining, and the form-fitting wooden sheath is carved from similarly attractive wood.
Condition: Sheath repaired from two halves and handle reattached to tang. Small chips along blade edge and minor abrasions to blade and sheath. Light earthen deposits and nice patina throughout.
