Lot of 5 Viking Bronze Coiled Hair Rings
Product Description
Northern Europe, Viking culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. Five beautiful hair rings made from coiled bronze wire. Made to be woven through the hair or through a beard, each would have sparkled in the sunlight when worn.
The Vikings were known for their ornament and beauty. A 13th century English chronicler complained of the Vikings, "[They] made themselves too acceptable to English women by their elegant manners and their care of their person. They combed their hair daily... and took a bath every Saturday, and even changed their clothes frequently, and improved the beauty of their bodies with many such trifles, by which means they undermined the chastity of [English] wives."
Each has a beautiful mottled turquoise patina. Very slight bending to form. All are still wearable if you so desire!
