Product Description
This set of copper coins are considered Spanish “Pirate Money”. Minted between the rule of Philippe III (1598-1621) and Philippe IV (1621-1665), they were originally struck depicting a castle and lion, some counter-stamped with symbols, Roman numerals and/or dates when the coins were re-tarriffed under later rulers.
Each measures between 18 and 22mm. Found at the site of a late Medieval harbor in Spain where pirates were known to have gathered to plunder Spanish galleons for their riches. ex-Cordoba, Spain collection.
