Manufactured in 1863 right in the heat of the Civil War, the .31 caliber features a 4” octagonal barrel marked “Address Col. Saml. Colt New-York U.S. America” in one line on top. There's also a flat, 6-shot round cylinder, open-top frame is marked “Colt’s Patent” on left side, brass grip straps marked “31 Cal.” on left rear trigger guard bolster, and a “5” on front web. This piece also comes with a custom metal base.
The Colt model 1849 is known as the gun that won the West as it was the preferred sidearm of cowboys, outlaws, and lawmen alike during the Gold Rush and Westward Expansion.
