Product Description
Athens, Attica, Ancient Greece, c. 440-404 BC. The silver "Old Style" tetradrachm features the head of Athena, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll. There's an owl standing right, head facing, an olive sprig and crescent; AΘΕ, all within incuse square.
These coins helped fund the building of the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, as well as funding the Peloponnesian War (431 - 404 BC) between Athens and Sparta.
