Early Belgian Flintlock Pistol // Early 1800s
Product Description
An excellent early Belgian flintlock naval pistol made in the early 1800s. The pistol features a 9-inch circa .69 bore barrel, and sideplate marked with Belgian proof marks. Heavy steel fittings with brass furniture and heavy brass butt and lanyard ring, and the wood with a wonderful dark patina. The lanyard loop at the base of the butt allowed this pistol, along with a second one, to be hung on either end of a scarf, so while swiftly boarding an enemy vessel both pistols would be loaded and ready for use. In excellent, clean condition with only minor pitting and blemishes. Action is strong and smooth; smoothbore is bright showing overall frosting.
This is an antique and not warranted safe to shoot and it should not be attempted without the aid of an expert.
