Precolumbian. Chimu c. 400-750 CE. A fantastic Chimu blackware frog vessel from Peru. The body bulbous, in the form of a crouching toad, with wide mouth, large eyes and little forelegs held tightly under the chin. Raised bumps overall. Tall tapered spout and gracefully-curved arching handle. Deep gray/black ceramic with white overtones giving great contrast. From the estate of David Sheridan, Branchburg, New Jersey, formed in the 1950’s; thence by descent to the family.
