Genuine Pirate Artifact // Port Royal, Sunken Pirate City
Product Description
Recovered from the submerged ruins of Port Royal, this porcelain pot has been wonderfully preserved. This piece comes from the collection of famed treasure hunter Sir Robert Marx, who personally salvaged it from the ruins on a diving expedition between 1964 and 1968.
The town of Port Royal, Jamaica was the true "Pirate City" which sunk into the sea in a devastating 1692 earthquake and subsequent tsunamis. It was populated primarily by pirates and privateers who used it as a safe-haven, earning the title “wickedest city in the world” and many people believed it to be divine retribution that the city was destroyed and literally swallowed up by the sea.
