Pre-Columbian. Michoacán, ancient Mexico. Archaic Period c. 200 BC. A fine ceramic female figurine, of the classic ”Double Eye" type. She is depicted with expressive features, wide eyes and mouth, with long hair, exposed breasts, wearing an ornate necklace and large headdress. Old collection tag on back. Figurine measures 2.5” high. Mounted in archival frame (frame measures 5.125” x 5.125”). Provenance: Ex. Lorenz Borenstein, New Orleans, collected in the 1950’s. Mr. Borenstein ran a gallery in the French Quarter of New Orleans during this period. With its original certificate of authenticity, bearing a drawing of the fragment done by Borenstein in 1963!
