First Jewish War. 66-70 C.E. Bronze prutah dated year 67/68 C.E. Set into a stunning custom .925 silver "cornucopia" bezel, accented by a ruby at the bottom tip. Two handled amphora, ancient Hebrew inscription "Year Two" / Grape leaf on small vine, "The Freedom of Zion" in Hebrew. Coin with lovely dark brassy patina, fantastic detail!
This coin was minted and circulated during the time of Josephus, the Jewish War and the standoff at Masada. These very same types of coins have been excavated atop the mountaintop fortress of Masada, and have earned the name "Masada coins". The coin in this pendant was found near Jerusalem.
