Ancient Roman Oil Lamp With Eagle // 2nd Century AD
Product Description
Ancient Rome, 2nd Century AD. Wonderful Roman ceramic discus oil lamp with an eagle. The bird is well-detailed and stands left, head to right. The discus is deeply concave with small fill-hole and set off by grooves and ridges, the nozzle short and round and the ring handle with two vertical ridges. On the underside maker's mark MNIVST in incised within a shallow groove. Well-preserved orange slip with mineral deposits and iron oxide on the discus from the iron wick adjuster.
