A beautiful Gandharan stucco head from the Indus Valley, c. 4th - 5th Century AD. This superbly detailed sculpture is masterfully carved from stucco, depicts the Buddha. He is portrayed with a serene countenance, with elegant facial features, elongated ears and hair in an intricate, wavy coif gathered in a topknot. Traces of red pigment typical of the Hadda types remain in the eyes and grooves. In exceptional condition.
