Product Description
Ancient Eastern Greek/Baktrian. Early Iron Age, c. 900-600 BC. Large bronze ring. A wonderful and quite wide bronze ring, the wide bezel with raised “sun-like” pattern with small raised globular details, over a background of concentric circles which are also visible from the underside. Olive-green patina, with light earthen encrustation. ref: T.N. Polio, "Ancient Rings" p. 49 for general type. Bezel diameter 1.125", about a US size 6.5. Provenance: The Signo collection, West London, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
This ring was actually used in an episode of NCIS which originally aired on October 3, 2022 while the characters are studying Baktrian symbols and artifacts, and is actually shown on a large monitor screen they are standing in front of!
