Late Republican Rome. Mark Antony. Excellent Silver Legionary Denarius, Legion VIII. Struck at the Battle of Actium (Greece) 32-31 BC. Praetorian galley (war ship) right, ANT AVG III VIR R P C / Aquila & two legionary standards, LEG VIII. Set into custom silver bezel and 18-inch Italian silver chain. Excellent detail, nicely-centered.

Struck by Antony, some say with Cleopatra's silver, to fund his fleet against Octavian at the decisive Battle of Actium, where he was defeated. Octavian later became Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome. The heads in the galley on the coin represent the actual people in history who held this coin.
