Ancient Mesopotamia, circa 1000-600 BC. A fantastic and very rare carved bone ornament reminiscent of a demon’s face. It is nicely carved with deep-cut detail, and two central holes which would have once contained bronze pins to affix it to an important wooden chest or other piece of furniture. W: 29mm (1 1/8”). Mounted in an archival frame (frame measures 4”).
