A very large and well-preserved Middle Eastern Islamic Koran (Quran) book dating from the 19th Century or prior. Every one of the seemingly countless pages is hand written and illustrated in black ink, some of the text with red accents. The book measures 10.25" by 7.5", and is 1.5 inches thick! The pages are fragile, some with torn edges, otherwise intact. From the collection of Dr Joseph Touma, Virginia; purchased at Christie's, October 14th, 1994 auction, lot 336.
