Coptic Ethiopia // Large Silver Cross Pendant
Product Description
Coptic Ethiopia, 18th-19th century AD. Ornate round silver cross pendant, made by the "lost wax" method. A fantastic Coptic heavily engraved with intricate detail in the form of a central cross incised patters around. Made of very debased, low-purity silver. From the personal collection of Charles Opitz, author of the references on Ethnographic art. Suspension loop intact and wearable with care!
Following the persecution during the Coptic period in ancient Egypt, Christians moved the church to sanctuary in Ethiopia where it continued to flourish for hundreds of years. It is even said that the holy Ark of the Covenant was secreted away to a church in Ethiopia--and is still secretly guarded there to this day.
