Holy Land, Late Roman to Byzantine Period, c. 6th-7th Century AD. A fantastic ceramic oil lamp, the wide, round handle depicting a beautiful cross with horizontal and vertical pellets decorating the inside. The lamp’s fill hole is ringed with a band of smaller raised pellets, and the spout still shows traces of charring from antiquity! Traces of the lamp’s original red slip still visible in the crevices, and light earthen and mineral deposits overall. L: 4 1/4".
