An excellent matched set of Roman silver coins of husband and wife / Emperor and Empress Septimius Severus and Julia Domna, struck between 193 and 209 AD. The first depicts the laureate head of Septimius Severus facing right, inscription SEVERVS PIVS AVG around / The back depicts the emperor standing, sacrificing from a patera over an altar, inscription VOTA SVSCEPTA XX around. The second coin depicts his wife Julia Domna’s draped bust facing right, inscription IVLIA AVGVSTA / The back depicts the goddess Cybele enthroned left between two lions, leaning on drum and holding branch and sceptre, inscription MATER DEVM (“Mother of the gods”). Both coins set into stunning custom .925 silver bezels and 20-inch Italian silver chains. Bezel diameters 25mm. An excellent husband and wife pair! Ex Los Angeles, CA private collection.
