Product Description

Jerusalem, c. "Year Zero", Time of Christ. A very large "Herodian" terracotta oil lamp, c. 4 BC to 4 AD. Made with rounded, flat body and short spout with pointed nozzle. Exceptionally well-preserved, with light Holy Land earthen deposits, the spout still charred from use in antiquity! Length: 4 3/8", very large for these.

The "Light Bulb of the Ancient World", one of these would have been in every household throughout Judaea during the time of Christ. It is highly likely that there were at least a few present during the Last Supper. This was also the type of lamp that would have been used to light the inside of Jesus' tomb after His crucifixion.
