Ancient Canaanite, Holy Land. Time of Egypt's Second Intermediate Period, 1786-1567 BC. Fantastic steatite scarab, made by the Canaanites in Egyptian style at the time. The base is engraved with various hieroglyphs including an erect cobra (uraeus), Horus falcon, feather of Ma’at and other Egyptian themes; the top sensitively decorated with lotus flowers in intricate detail. Excellent surfaces, traces of green glaze evident. L: 18mm (just under 0.75”). With archival display frame (frame measures 3.125”).
