Roman Coin of Marc Antony With Warship // Silver Pendant
Product Description
Late Roman Republic. Mark Antony with Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt. Excellent Silver Legionary Denarius, Legion XII. Struck at the Battle of Actium 32-31 BC. Praetorian galley right, ANT AVG III VIR R P C / Aquila & two legionary standards, LEG XII below. Set in custom silver bezel and 18-inch Italian silver chain. Very Fine, nice detail. Struck by Antony, some say with Cleopatra's silver, to fund his fleet against Octavian at the decisive Battle of Actium, where he was defeated. Octavian later became Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome. The little heads in the galley on the coin represent the actual historical men who literally held this coin.
