Laureate bust of Melkart right, lion skin tied around neck / Eagle standing left on prow, holding palm branch, Club of Herakles to left, ΤΥPΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΑΣΥΛΟΥ (“Holy and inviolable Tyre”). A well struck and attractive example. Ex Robert Loosley collection, author of “Roman Silver Coins.” This is a rare denomination... the Half Shekel was the official Temple Tax denomination accepted at the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.
