Ancient Judaea, circa “Year Zero” under Herod the Great. Exceptional Herodian ceramic oil lamp, made c. 4 BC - 4 AD. With a rounded, flat body and long spout and squared nozzle. Elaborate wine grape-vine decoration around fill hole and raised flourishes on sides, small knob handle. Spout still charred from use in antiquity! Ancient reddish earthen deposits on the surfaces. An extremely rare type. Found near Jerusalem.
