Biblical Elamites. Elymais, ancient Persia. King Kamnaskires-Orodes, c. 180 AD. Bronze drachm. Diademed, facing bust of king, crescent moon and pellet above, anchor symbol to right / dashes on reverse. Nice green patina. The people of Elymais (also spelled Elamais) were descendants of Biblical Elam and the Elamites, and likely spoke or read Aramaic, they were known as a culture of great archers. Their coins depicted a king but the engravers were mainly illiterate, imitating inscriptions on the back of these coins.
