Pre-Columbian. Michoacán, ancient Mexico. Archaic Period c. 200 BC. A fine ceramic female figurine, of the classic ”Double Eye" type. She is depicted with expressive features, wide eyes and mouth, with long hair, wearing a wide multi-layered necklace and large ear-spools. Old collection tag on back. Figurine measures 2 1/4” high. Mounted in archival frame (frame measures 4” x 4”). Provenance: Ex. Lorenz Borenstein, New Orleans, collected in the 1950’s. Mr. Borenstein ran a gallery in the French Quarter of New Orleans during this period. With its original certificate of authenticity, bearing a drawing of the fragment done by Borenstein in 1963!
