Product Description

An excellent R. Johnson U.S. Model 1836 .54 caliber flintlock pistol made in 1843 and converted to percussion shortly thereafter. Features an 8" round smooth bore barrel, walnut stock with swivel ramrod intact but a bit stuck in place. Action is tight, the hammer holds at half and full cock. The lockplate stamped: "U.S. R. JOHNSON MIDDn CONN 1843" (Robert Johnson, Middletown, CT 1843). Faint inspector's markings in ovoid cartouches on left side of walnut stock of "JH" and “W.A.T”. On the wood on the opposite site the original owner appears to have carved the initial “A”. Extremely well-preserved, with excellent toning to the metal and wood, areas of expected usage wear, minor spots of rusting and pitting, stock with a few minor cracks. Total length 14 inches, and heavy! This is an antique, and not warranted safe to shoot without the aid of a skilled professional.
