Alexander III The Great of Macedon, 336-323 BCE. Large silver tetradrachm. Babylon mint, where he died! Struck just after his death c. 311-305 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lionskin headdress / Zeus seated left, holding eagle and sceptre, AΛEΞANΔΡOY; MI left, MTP monogram within wreath beneath chair. Wonderful gunmetal-gray tone, excellent portrait, high-relief detail.
