Product Description
Ancient Judaea, circa “Year Zero”. Exceptional and very large Herodian ceramic oil lamp, made c. 4 BC - 4 AD. This was the type of lamp that would have been used to light the inside of Jesus' tomb after His crucifixion. With a rounded, flat body and long spout and squared nozzle. Spout still charred from use in antiquity! Ancient reddish earthen deposits on the surfaces. Nicely preserved, some age cracks around edge. Found near Jerusalem.
