Attica, Athens, ancient Greece. Circa 454-404 BC. Large silver tetradrachm. Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye / Owl standing right, head facing; above and behind, olive sprig and crescent; ΑΘΕ, all within incuse square, small ancient banker's mark. Near-EF, lightly toned. These coins funded the building of the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, as well as funding the Peloponnesian War (431 - 404 BC) between Athens and Sparta.
