Roman Egypt. Claudius, 41-54 AD. Incredibly rare bronze obol, Alexandria mint. Dated regnal year 12 (51/52 AD). Laureate head of Claudius right / Hand left, holding winged caduceus; L IB (date) below. Red-brown patina, spots of green. VF. Very rare, four known to RPC, just two at CoinArchives.
The serpent-entwined staff of Aesklepius became known as the caduceus. This symbol is still used worldwide as a symbol of medicine and healing to this day!
