Medieval Viking Key // 9th-12th Century AD
Product Description
A very rare Viking-period large iron key dating from the circa 9th-12th Century AD. It measures 3 3/4” long and is comprised of a small ring handle, long body with hollow channel at the end, and wide, L-shaped head. The head has 2 sharp outward-extending pins, a single small hole and a semicircular notch on the edge. This would have likely been used to open and close a secure strong-box or chest. Professionally conserved and wonderfully preserved. Ex Eastern European private collection.
