Indus Valley Cosmetics Dish with Dragon // 1st-2nd Century AD
Product Description
An excellent Gandharan green schist cosmetics dish from the Indus Valley, c. 1st-2nd Century CE. It is 4.125” wide and was hand-carved in two parts. The deeply-cut semicircular basin would have been used for applying cosmetics. The upper half is engraved with a winged dragon crouching left, a raised divider just below which is etched with a geometric motif. In an excellent state of preservation, and intact save for an area of the rim missing behind and just above the dragon. Nice sparkly blue-green color overall.
