Product Description
Ancient Holy Land, Roman period c. 1st-4th century AD. An extremely rare lead gaming piece discovered in 1974 at the remains of a Roman legionary base-camp near Megiddo, Israel. Gambling was illegal in the Roman military, but the soldiers did so anyway, using roundels in place of cash, in case they were caught. W: 1 inch (24mm). Nice light-gray tone with light earthen deposits. Megiddo is also known as “Armageddon” which some say will be the site of the final battle on earth. From the collection of Eleazar Ben-Aurichin, Historian of Ancient Palestine.
