Ancient Egypt. Ptolemaic period, c. 2nd - 1st century BC. An Egyptian terracotta figure of Harpokrates, the Greek form of Horus, shown as a child. He represented the “newborn Sun,” and according to Plutarch, was an embodiment of hope to the ancient Greeks. He is depicted wearing long robes and side-lock, his right finger pressed to his lip. Nicely preserved, with light deposits.

This is such a fabulous piece. It is wonderfully preserved, which indicates it likely was found in a tomb. But hard to know for sure as it came from a very old collection originally, and the specific original find location is not known.
