Biblical "Poor Widow's Mite" coin. Bronze prutah, coin type mentioned in the Bible. This is also the first Jewish coin type ever struck! Minted during the 1st Century BC but circulated throughout Judaea during the time of Christ. The coin depicts a double cornucopia adorned with ribbons and pomegranate within the two horns; small “L”, the back with Hebrew inscription: Yehohanan the High Priest and the Council of the Jews" in five lines within wreath. Coin measures 14mm, with black patina and light Holy Land earthen highlights. Encapsulated and graded Very Fine by NGC. A very attractive specimen!
