Byzantine Empire, c. 7th-9th century AD. Rare bronze bread stamp, the body made as an openwork monogram (not yet deciphered). Made as a sort of ring, with simple ring handle. Green patina, earthen deposits. A very rare and delicate ancient bread stamp which a specific baker would have used to stamp his bread prior to selling to customers.
