Ancient Greece. Macedonia, Amphipolis. c. 158-149 BC. Large Silver Tetradrachm. 1st Meris. Bust of Artemis right at center of a Macedonian shield, bow and quiver at her shoulder. / MAKEDONWN PRWTHS above and below the club of Hercules, three monograms of minting officials above and below; all within an oak-wreath, thunderbolt to left. A very large and beautiful silver coin struck after the Macedonia had come under Roman control. A fine example of Hellenistic numismatic art.
