Transylvania (Wallachia, Romania). Dan I, 1383-1386 AD. Predecessor to Vlad III The Impaler. Silver Ducat. Split shield with coat of arms (three bars and sigla) of the Basarab family inside an inner pearl circle. Circulated during the lifetime and reign of Vlad the Impaler, as he minted no coins of his own.

Legend: +IODAN-OVBOEBODA, Sigla / Walachian coat of arms - mountain eagle perched on a plumed helmet. Sigla in left field. Legend: +IODAN-OVBOEBODA.
