Biblical Elamites. Elymais, ancient Persia, c. 1500-500 BC. Very rare bronze finger ring depicting a Gryphon (Griffin) facing left. Very thick and robust, one side of the bezel with a small loop from which some sort of charm or small chain would have been affixed in antiquity. Black patina with light earthen deposits. Identified by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993. (Lambert ID #R-799).
