Ancient Rome. Domitian, 81-96 AD. Large bronze As. “Damnatio Memoriae” coin struck 85 AD, the portrait was deliberately gouged by someone trying to erase his memory. A very interesting specimen.

His laureate head right, wearing aegis, IMP CAES DOMITIAN AVG GERM COS XI / Moneta (“Money”) standing left, holding scales and cornucopia, MONETA AVGVST S-C.
