Ancient Greece, c. 4th-1st Century BC. Excellent terracotta bulla depicting a lion with paw raised, resting on an orb or ball, head turned back. Made in ancient times as a seal for important documents, the impression was made by the owner’s signet ring, “signing” the seal. This is where the word “signature” derives from. Traces of the fingerprints of the maker still visible on edges! Nice tan color
