Civil War Colt Model 1849 // The "Gun That Won The West"
Product Description
A fantastic display piece with a ton of history and eye appeal. The Colt model 1849 is sometimes referred-to as “the Gun that Won the West” as it was the preferred sidearm of cowboys, outlaws and lawmen alike during the Gold Rush and Westward Expansion.
The Antique Colt Model 1849 Percussion Pocket Revolver was manufactured in 1864 during the heat of the Civil War. In nice condition for its age, it has all its serial numbers correctly matching, and with its original wood grips. Signs of wear and use overall, including some pitting and various scuffs and dents, typical for a pistol of this age. The dings on the brass of the butt often occurred from the pistol having been used as a hammer or tool in a pinch. The barrel has the one-line Samuel Colt New York address “ADDRESS CCL SAM’L COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA”. The cylinder is worn but still shows only the slightest traces of a stagecoach robbing scene that was once engraved on it, along with “COLTS PATENT” and serial number. The cylinder tends to not cycle, but the hammer does tend to stay at cock. This is an antique and not warranted safe to shoot and it should not be attempted without the aid of an expert.
