Product Description

Ancient Roman North Africa. Early Christian period, c. 350 – 390 AD. Excellent Roman Terra Sigillata pottery fragment. Thick in construction, this was undoubtedly part of a large and important bowl or vase. High relief detail depicting a hunting or gladiatorial scene showing a lion racing to attack a chariot with rider who in turn faces backwards with a long zigzag-shaped spear or sword. Heart-shaped decorative elements around. Very thick, with glossy burnished underside.
