Shekel of Tyre, Famous Biblical "30 Pieces of Silver" of Judas. Phoenicia, Tyre, a contemporary plated imitation struck 4-5 AD. This coin was made during the early lifetime of Christ, copying the solid silver Phoenician Shekel that was prevalent in Israel at the time. An ancient and historical counterfeit! The coin is dated CY 130 (4-5 AD, during the lifetime of Christ). Laureate head of Melqart right, lion skin around neck / Eagle standing left on prow; palm frond in background, TYΡOY IEΡAΣ KAI AΣYΛOY. In the reverse field are the club of Herakles and PΛΣ - PΛ (date). Graded Very Fine with sharp and striking detail, only marred by the ancient base metal protruding through the surfaces. An extremely rare example!
