Byzantine Cross Pendant // 8th-11th Century AD
Product Description
This bronze Cross Pendant originates in the Byzantine Empire, circa 8th-11th century AD. One side depicts Christ with arms outstretched with the other side depicting the Virgin Mary, arms upraised “Orans” - meaning "in prayer". The pendant arrives intact with original suspension loop at top. It has a lovely olive-green patina and boasts excellent high-relief detail. This is truly museum-worthy piece.

Unlikely, but theoretically possible. Pilgrims at this time were collecting all sorts of relics from early Christianity. We have had True Cross fragments (purportedly) collected in the Medieval period, apparently from the True Cross St. Helena retrieved from Jerusalem during the Constantinian era, c. 330's AD.
