Roman Dog Footprint // 1st-3rd century AD // Terracotta Tile
Product Description
Great terracotta roof tile with a dog’s footprint! Roman roof tiles were mold-made en masse and laid out in the sun to dry. This example was in the path of a dog trotting through, who left its footprint impressed in the clay. Upon returning to his work the artisan realized what happened and broke and discarded the tile. On the back is an inked tag indicating where it was found, unfortunately obscured and difficult to make out. A wonderful little snapshot of history and a perfect piece for a dog lover!
