Byzantine Empire, c. 7th - 11th Century AD. A lovely little silvered-bronze bird ornament. The front is nicely detailed in 3-dimensional form, with well-defined wings and tail. The other side is flat, likely indicating this was once an inlay or decoration on a chest or piece of furniture. Measures 26mm (1 inch) in length.
