Ancient Holy Land, Judaea, Herodian Kings. Herod Agrippa I, 37-44 AD. Bronze prutah, struck 42 AD. The front depicts an umbrella-like canopy with fringes, with the inscription AGRIPA BACILEWC / The back shows three ears of barley between two leaves, date L-S at sides (year 6 = 42 AD). ref: Hendin 553/1244; AJC II, 249,11 for type. Coin diameter 17mm. Herod Agrippa I is referenced in the New Testament, Acts 12: he ordered the execution of the apostle James, and imprisoned Peter with intent to execute him as well, but Peter miraculously escaped.
