Glenallachie (pronounced as “glenALlakee”) is located in Aberlour. It was founded in 1967, making it one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery sits at the foot of the Ben Rinnes and draws its water source from the springs of the mountains. Despite being in the heart of the Scottish Speyside, this distillery holds a very low-profile. Single malts from Glenallachie are very rare, with the distillery being used almost exclusively to produce spirit which goes into popular Chivas Brothers blends such as Clan Campbell, Passport, and Chivas Regal.
The 1992 Glenallachie 26 Year Scotch Whisky lends a malty undertone, accompanied by a textural quality as delicate fruitiness rises above.
Miltonduff Distillery is located in the Glen of Pluscarden, an abbey just southwest of Elgin, Moray. The distillery is situated between the clear waters of Black Burn and rich barley pastures owned by the monastery. The distillery was an illegal hooch operation before going legal after the passage of the Excise Act in 1823. Whether any monastic distillation ever took place is unknown – the original monastery fell into ruin in the early 17th century but was restored in 1948 and is now the only medieval monastery still inhabited by monks.
The 1994 Miltonduff 24 Year Scotch Whisky is a charming dram with a fresh, floral character and a succulent texture.
Teaninich (pronounced TEE-ah-nen-ik) was founded in 1817 by captain Hugh Munro, the owner of the Teaninich Estate. The Teaninich distillery is located a little north of Inverness, not far from the Dalmore distillery. Bottlings of Teaninich as a single malt are quite rare because Diageo has always used most of the output as a ‘filler’ for their blends. Production at Teaninich is most noteworthy for the installation of a mash filter press in the year 2000. In a filter press, the mash is squeezed between cloth plates to collect wort faster, and more thoroughly than with traditional sparging.
Teaninich whiskies express an exotic grassiness that suggests greet-tea and open fields. Oily and weighty on the palate, this 2004 Teaninich 13 Year Scotch Whisky maintains an elegant balance of acid and heft. Alexander Murray & Co is pleased to offer this exceptional small batch scotch as part of the Touch of Modern exclusive release.
